New York LIVE: Mazda CX-5 Diesel

The diesel edition has an estimated highway rating of 30 mpg.

Mazda has finally revealed the diesel-powered CX-5, adding the new powertrain to the Signature AWD trim.

The turbocharged Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter engine provides 168 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 290 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm, with a 5,500 rpm rev limit.

Mazda estimates the CX-5 diesel will receive EPA city/highway/combined ratings of 27/30/28 mpg, slightly better than the 24/30/26 mpg of the CX-5 AWD with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter gasoline engine, though the front-wheel drive CX-5 still has the highest highway rating of 31 mpg.

The diesel CX-5 Signature AWD will arrive in showrooms soon with a $42,045 price tag (including freight).
