McLaren F1 LM sells for record $19.8M at Monterey auction

The top bid was slightly below RM Sotheby's estimate of $21-23 million.

A 1994 McLaren F1 LM-specification has fetched an impressive $19.8 million at the latest Monterey auctions.

The F1 was one of just two that had been modified by the factory to LM specifications, with an unrestricted GTR racing engine and extra-high downforce kit.

The car had just 13,352 miles on the odometer and had been regularly serviced by McLaren Special Operations technicians.

Notably, the final bid was actually a bit lower than auctioneer RM Sotheby's initial estimate of $21-23 million.
