Mercedes-Benz reveals 2021 GLE Coupe; AMG edition gets 429 hp
A 48-volt hybrid system adds another 21 horsepower for brief maneuvers.
Mercedes-AMG has revealed the 2021 GLE 53 Coupe, filling a gap between the current GLE 43 and range-topping GLE 63 S.
The GLE 53 Coupe is powered by the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine found in the standard-body GLE 53, delivering 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. A 48-volt mild hybrid system kicks in with an extra 21 ponies and 184 pound-feet of torque for brief periods.
Both the SUV and coupe launch to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and are electronically limited to 155 mph.
AMG design elements can be found throughout, with a unique grille and large outer air inlets with chrome louvers and black accents. A trunklid spoiler, chrome twin-tailpipe trim elements and 21-inch wheels reinforce the look.
The GLE 53 Coupe slots between the GLE 43 Coupe, which boasts 385 horsepower and starts at $71,350, and the GLE 63 S Coupe that jumps to 577 horsepower and commands $113,000.
