The V8 midsizer gets some front- and rear-end enhancements.

Mercedes-Benz is in the midst of a mid-cycle nip-and-tuck job for its E-Series sedan lineup, and spies in Sweden caught the flagship Mercedes-AMG E63 model undergoing winter testing Monday.

The updated E-Class will borrow some design cues from the company's four-door coupes, most notably in the front and rear lighting, and we expect some noteworthy interior updates, though likely more oriented toward technology than outright styling changes.

The same will likely be true under the hood, where we anticipate a slight power bump (likely no more than 25 horsepower) for both the E63 and E63 S models.

The Mercedes-Benz product cadence allowed the current-gen E-Class sedan to leapfrog the flagship S-Class sedan's techno-wizardry. With an overhauled S-Class currently under development (and likely to debut around the same time as the refreshed E-Class, or perhaps even sooner), Mercedes will likely take the opportunity to synchronize its offerings.

While this example appears to be pretty far along (only the nose and tail are covered), our photographer cautioned us that it's likely we won't see the updated E63 sedan hit the show circuit (or whatever passes for it) until next summer, which could mean a formal production debut could be as far away as the 2021 model year.
