Chicago LIVE: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter WORKER
Mercedes has a new entry-level Sprinter model.
Mercedes-Benz is making its Sprinter van more accessible to small businesses with a new WORKER model. The entry-level Mercedes-Benz Sprinter WORKER is making its global debut at the Chicago auto show.
The Sprinter WORKER is essentially a barebones version of the regular Sprinter van and is aimed at commercial buyers like plumbers, electricians, general contractors, andHVAC specialists. The Sprinter WORKER will carry a base price of $32,495 when it hits dealer showrooms, undercutting the regular version of the van by $4,000. The van is also subject to a $995 delivery charge.
"We are pleased to announce the new Sprinter WORKER model, which is every bit ascapable as the rest of our Sprinter lineup at an even more attractive starting price:$32,495,” said Bernie Glaser, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Vans in the USA.
The WORKER is based on the standard-height roof, 144-inch wheelbase version of the Sprinter. Mercedes-Benz says the Sprinter WORKER offers 319.1 cubic feet of cargo room, besting the base versions of the Ford Transit and Ram Promaster.
The Sprinter WORKER is powered by Mercedes' 2.1L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. Producing 161 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, the Sprinter WORKER is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds and carrying 3,512 pounds of cargo. A seven-speed transmission is the WORKER's lone gearbox.
As you might expect, the Sprinter WORKER is sparsely equipped, but the work van does come standard with Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, air conditioning, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, four-speaker audio system and Crosswind Assist.
A CONVENIENCE Package is available for $1,499 and adds heated power mirrors, cruise control, automatic lights and windshield wipers, multi-function steering wheel and trailer hitch pre-wiring.
For an additional $2,999, buyers can select a UTILITY package. It adds a wood cargo floor, rear step, LED cargo bay lighting, two additional keys and glass in the van's rear cargo doors. An OVERTIME package can be had for $4,499 and includes an upgraded audio system, high-beam assist, blind spot assist, rear view camera, first aid kit and an emergency flashlight.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter WORKER is available for order now at Mercedes-Benz Van dealerships.
