Maybach previews Pebble Beach-bound concept car

The design study is related to last year\'s Maybach 6 concept.

Mercedes-Maybach has released a brief teaser video to preview a concept that's a few short days away from breaking cover.

Right now, all we know is the design study -- which is known simply as Vision -- is related to last year's Maybach 6 concept. That's not a lot to go on, and Mercedes-Benz is keeping additional details under wraps for the time being.

British magazine Autocar has learned the "big surprise" previewed by the video is actually a convertible version of 6 concept, which shed insight into Maybach's answer to the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Last year's show car used a 738-horsepower battery-electric powertrain.

Far from a simple design study, the 6 is expected to make the transition from the show floor to the showroom floor in the coming years. It will likely launch with a powerful V12 engine, but an electric powertrain might join the lineup a little later in the production run. Interestingly, Autocar reports the coupe/convertible duo will be built in a new standalone factory so that customers can get involved in the production process.

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance starts on August 17. Mercedes-Maybach has promised to release additional information next week, ahead of the car's debut.
