2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S gets seven-speed manual

The row-your-own gearbox will be a no-cost alternative to the standard eight-speed PDK unit.

Porsche has announced plans to offer a seven-speed manual gearbox for the 2020 911 Carrera S and 4S lineup, including coupe and cabriolet variants.

The seven-speed unit will be available as a no-cost alternative to the standard eight-speed PDK transmission. It is paired with a mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring, replacing the PDK's electronically controlled LSD.
Unsurprisingly, the row-your-own edition is not quite as quick with a four-second launch to 60 mph. The quick-shifting PDK allows the 911 Carrera S to hit the same speed in just 3.3 seconds. Both have a top speed above 190 mph.
As an added bonus, the manual gearbox is 84 pounds lighter and brings the total curb weight for the Carrera S Coupe down to 3,298 pounds.
The seven-speed manual will arrive at US dealerships in spring 2020 with prices starting at $113,300.
