Porsche Taycan gets three years of free charging; 60 miles in four minutes

The luxury electric sedans will charge for free on the diesel scandal-funded Electrify America network.

Porsche has announced that the all-electric Taycan will be sold with three years of free charging on Volkswagen Group's Electrify America network.

Created as part of VW's emissions violations settlement, Electrify America is building more than 300 highway charging locations and even more community sites that support a wide range of EVs from various automakers.

The Taycan is claimed to have the fastest charge rate of any EV, adding 60 miles of range in just four minutes via a 350-kilowatt connection and 800-volt vehicle battery architecture.

Each Electrify America location will have a minimum of two 350-kW chargers, with other connections powered at 150 kW. The highway stations will be no more than 120 miles from each other, with a nationwide average of just 70 miles between sites.

At least 484 charging locations will be installed or under construction by July 1, in time for the Taycan's arrival. Owners will also be able to charge the sedans at Porsche dealers across the nation.
