Chicago LIVE: Ram introduces Heavy Duty 4x4 Off-road package

Ram Heavy Duty truck buyers will soon have access to a new off-road package.

Ram is expanding its truck lineup with a new 4x4 Off-road package for its 2500 pickup truck. The Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Off-road package made its debut earlier today at the Chicago auto show.

In order to look the part, the 4x4 Off-road package includes unique graphics and large fender flares that can be had in black or body-color. The package also includes front tow hooks.

Off-road hardware includes Bilstein monotube shock absorbers all around, an anti-spin rear differential and a transfer case skid plate. Base trucks come with 18-inch wheels shod in Firestone off-road rubber while 20-inchers are available.

To help when the going gets tough, the 4x4 package includes a Hill-decent control borrowed from the Power Wagon.

"Truck customers require a wide range of off-road capability options and Ram trucks are designed and engineered for the full spectrum,” said Bob Hegbloom, Head of Ram Truck Brand, FCA - North America. "Anyone who spends most days on the outskirts of a job site or the weekend on the shore of a favorite fishing hole will benefit from the standard features on our new Ram 2500 4x4 Off-road Package.”

The 4x4 Off-road package will be available on a wide range of Ram 2500 configurations, including Crew Cab and Mega Cab; short- and long-wheelbase; and with gas and diesel powertrains. Pricing has not been announced, but the 4x4 Off-road package will become available during the third quarter of 2016.
