Ram announces return of EcoDiesel to 1500 pickup

The new Ram EcoDiesel will be available later this year.

Ram has announced the return of the V6 EcoDiesel to its 1500 pickup truck lineup. Customers will be able to option their light-duty Ram trucks with the turbo V6 starting in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Like before, the Ram's option EcoDiesel is a turbocharged V6 displacing 3.0L. However, Ram has made several improvements to the engine -- including a redesigned cylinder head and a new-generation turbocharger -- netting 260 horsepower (+8 percent) and 480 lb-ft of torque (+14 percent).

"The new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is America's most powerful half-ton diesel pickup, following up on Ram's Heavy Duty torque leadership and achieving what no other manufacturer has, with up to 480 lb.-ft. of torque in a 3.0-liter engine,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. "The all-new EcoDiesel engine and our eTorque mild-hybrid powertrain technologies deliver the highest available fuel efficiency for our Ram 1500 customers.”

The EcoDiesel will be optional on all models and configurations of the Ram 1500 including, for the first time, the Ram Rebel. When properly equipped, EcoDiesel trucks will be capable of towing up to 12,560 pounds.

Ram will announce pricing and fuel economy specs for the EcoDiesel engine closer to its market launch.
