Ram reveals Raptor-fighting Rebel TRX concept with 575 horsepower

The concept is said to be the most powerful factory-engineered half-ton pickup, beating the F-150 SVT Raptor and Ram\'s own Viper V10-powered SRT-10.

Ram has revealed the Rebel TRX concept, billed as a 100-mph desert cruiser and the most powerful factory-engineered half-ton pickup ever.

The concept is motived by a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI engine with 575 horsepower on tap. The displacement figure suggests Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is using a detuned version of the Hellcat V8, which boasts 707 ponies in the Dodge Charger SRT and Challenger SRT.

"Mated to the TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission, new calibrations were used for the engine, transmission and drivetrain to optimize the expected high-speed off-road driving cycle," the company says.

The TRX appears to have an advantage of more than 150 ponies over Ford's F-150 SVT Raptor. It also beats Ram's retired SRT-10 pickup, which borrowed the Viper's 8.3-liter V10.

Helping achieve triple digit speeds in off-road environments -- and better compete with the Raptor -- the TRX has received extensive suspension upgrades and a wider track. Front and rear suspension travel has jumped from nine inches to more than 13 inches, with redesigned A-arms to optimize camber and caster through the expanded range. Buyers can also adjust the front internal-bypass coilover shocks.

To help bring the machine down from full gallop in a hurry, Ram engineers opted for six-piston calipers on 15-inch rotors up front and 14-inch rotors for the rear wheels.

The TRX rides on massive 37-inch tires, each more than 13 inches wide and mounted on beadlock wheels. Two complete spare tire and wheel assemblies are securely mounted in the bed, beside a storage box containing tools and a jack.

The company has not explicitly confirmed production plans for the Rebel TRX concept, but the specific details regarding engine tuning suggest the package is being prepped for sale.
