Subaru Viziv Performance Concept gets STI treatment
The concept hints at one possible direction for the next-generation WRX STI flagship.
Subaru has revealed the Viziv Performance STI Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The basic Viziv Performance Concept debuted late last year at the Tokyo Motor Show, providing the first glimpse at a possible design direction for the next-generation WRX.
Hinting at the next WRX STI flagship, the latest concept adds a rear wing, more aggressive body styling, a front splitter and plenty of carbon fiber.
Subaru design chief Mamoru Ishii recently promised the next WRX and WRX STI will retain four-wheel drive but the company has "more freedom" to explore different powertrain options. The comments were interpreted as a hint that the automaker is considering a plug-in hybrid system.
A redesigned WRX isn't expected to arrive until 2020, presumably a year or more ahead of the next WRX STI.
