Subaru Legacy, Outback get slight price bump for 2020 redesign

Opting for a turbocharged engine will cost significantly more than the outgoing flat-six.

Subaru has announced pricing details for the 2020 Legacy and Outback, both redesigned for the latest model year.

Entry prices remain nearly flat, increasing by a few hundred dollars to $23,645 for the Legacy and $27,655 for the Outback. Both base models are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Upgrading to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine costs significantly more than the outgoing flat-six, with prices starting at $35,095 for the Legacy and $35,905 for the Outback. Notably, the six-cylinder engine had only been available with more expensive Outback trim packages for the 2019 model year.

The four-cylinder mill provides 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged engine jumps to 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 redesign also brings upgraded driver-assistance technology and a more rigid yet lighter chassis.

Both new models are scheduled to arrive in US showrooms this fall.
