Following record quarter, Tesla to continue ramping production volume

The company is preparing to hire more workers at its California and Nevada factories.

Tesla is apparently aiming to continue pushing production volume higher following a record number of deliveries in the second quarter.

In a letter to employees obtained by Bloomberg, Tesla's automotive president, Jerome Guillen, said the company is "making preparations" to increase output in Fremont.

"While we can't be too specific in this email, I know you will be delighted with the upcoming developments," he wrote.

Despite a recent trimming of Tesla's employee ranks to save costs, the automaker is now opening up new positions in Fremont and at its Nevada Gigafactory to support the production ramp.

The company's latest production benchmark sits at 87,048 vehicles in the most recent three-month period. CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly mentioned a slightly higher goal of 500,000 vehicles annually, which would require a quarterly average volume of 125,000 vehicles.
