Tesla Model 3 rolls on highway; 'performed spectacularly'by Justin King
The Model 3 reportedly rolled several times after colliding with another vehicle at highway speed.
A Tesla Model 3 owner has detailed the model's first publically reported rollover accident, praising the EV for its crash safety and posting pictures of the damage.
Reddit user StapleGun's wife was traveling on the highway at around 70 mph when she collided with a vehicle in the adjacent lane. Both vehicles lost control and the Model 3 struck the concrete median, shearing off the front wheel and causing the car to roll "multiple times" before coming to a stop upside down.
The Model 3 driver initially thought she was uninjured but doctors later discovered a compression fracture in one of her vertebrae. She was released within a few hours.
"I thought the car performed spectacularly from a safety standpoint," the driver's husband wrote. "As you can see from the photos the cabin was completely intact. The windshield and glass roof obviously shattered but they did not intrude into the cabin at all."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have not yet posted crash-test results for the Model 3.
