Tesla delivers record 95,200 vehicles in second quarter

Demand outstripped production for Q2, increasing the order backlog going into the second half of the year.

As forecast by Elon Musk, Tesla has posted a record quarter with 95,200 deliveries.

The Q2 tally included 17,650 Model S/X deliveries and 77,500 Model 3 sedans shipped to customers. Production numbers also set a new benchmark for the company, with 87,048 vehicles rolling off the assembly line across the three-month period.

"Orders generated during the quarter exceeded our deliveries, thus we are entering Q3 with an increase in our order backlog," the company said in a statement. "We believe we are well positioned to continue growing total production and deliveries in Q3."

The company also says it has made significant progress streamlining its global logistics and delivery operations at higher volumes, setting the stage for improved cost efficiencies and increased working capital going forward.
