Tesla Model 3 outsells all BMW passenger cars in August
Tesla's Model 3, S and X now hold the top three positions among plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles in the US market.
Now that Tesla's Model 3 is rolling off the assembly line in consistently high volumes, the mass-market EV appears to have outsold BMW's entire range of passenger cars in the US.
InsideEVs estimates Model 3 sales reached 17,800 units in August, compared to a combined total of 14,450 units for all of BMW's passenger cars combined.
BMW places its 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-series in the passenger cars category, along with the i3, i8, Z4, X1, and X2.
Tesla also appears to have established clear dominance among all plug-in vehicles, including plug-in hybrids and pure EVs. In August, the company held the top three spots with the Model 3, Model S and Model X, respectively.
The Prius Prime, Chevrolet Volt, Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf counted a combined total of around 6,400 units in August, representing less than half Model 3 sales.
