Toyota introduces Land Cruiser Namib for South Africa
The rugged Jeep Gladiator rival will not be coming to the US.
Toyota has revealed the Land Cruiser Namib, a particularly rugged version of the 70-series SUV.
Based on the Land Cruiser 79 D-Cab, the rugged SUV-pickup is powered by a 4.5-liter turbodiesel V8 with 205 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.
The Namib edition adds a long list of overland adventure upgrades including a front nudge bar, LED spotlights, off-road suspension, and larger Cooper Discoverer tires on 16-inch alloy wheels.
The current 70-series Land Cruiser family has been around since the mid-1980s but only in overseas markets. Strict US safety and emissions regulations presumably preclude a North American launch for the current model, leaving the new Jeep Gladiator alone in the niche segment.
