Toyota tests waters for Supra GT4

Toyota has revealed images of a Supra GT4 race car that privateers may soon be able to purchase for competition.

Described as a "racing study model,” the car is a motorsports package built to GT4 specifications, with racing brakes and suspension. The GT4 concept Toyota's shown includes a stripped out interior, roll cage, OMP racing seat, and competition steering wheel. The engine retains its 3.0-liter inline-six turbo configuration, but little has been revealed beyond that.

It also wears the prettiest livery of all the Supra racing concepts we've seen (and yes, that includes the NASCAR version), even though the actual car, if built, will likely be delivered as a "body in white.”

With these specs, the Supra is eligible for Europe's GT4 Cup, IMSA's Michelin Pilot Challenge, and others.

Toyota intends to test customer reception at the Geneva Motor Show this month. It will decide whether to produce the car if the response is good.
