Report: Volkswagen readying three-row 'ID Lounge' electric SUV

The range-topping model is said to be similar in size to the new Touareg.

Volkswagen is reportedly developing a spacious all-electric SUV with enough room for seven occupants.

Known internally as the ID Lounge, the three-row SUV is said to be roughly similar to the third-generation Touareg in terms of exterior dimensions and interior space, according to Autocar.

The German automaker engineered its MEB platform architecture to easily support a wide range of body styles and vehicles, ranging from a Golf-like hatchback to the ID Buzz van and its commercial cargo-hauling counterpart.

The Lounge is expected to deliver a combined output of nearly 370 horsepower via two electric motors, with a range of up to 372 miles according to the EU test cycle.

The report suggests VW will waste little time building out a family of all-electric SUVs, starting with the ID Crozz in 2021. The Lounge is expected to arrive on 2022 along with a sportier Crozz variant with a coupe silhouette.
