Frankfurt LIVE: 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc

The new model focuses on personalization and a modern \'expressive\' design.

Volkswagen has officially revealed the T-Roc, serving as the brand's fourth SUV and an important piece of the biggest model offensive in its history.

The T-Roc splits from VW's more conservatively styled SUVs, introducing a more expressive, modern design that focuses on personalization. It is the brand's first SUV to be available with two-tone paintwork, allowing buyers to pick a contrasting hue for the 'coupe-like' roof.

Both the concept and production edition share similar wide grille with integrated thin headlights, while the fog lights and daytime running lights are placed individually for a distinctive appearance.

Built upon the same MQB platform that underpins the larger Tiguan and Atlas, the T-Roc will be offered in front- or all-wheel drive packages with a choice of three gasoline engines and as many diesel mills.

As expected, the crossover will be equipped with many of VW Group's latest safety and assistance technologies. Standard equipment includes automatic post-collision braking, active lane keeping and city emergency braking. Optional upgrades include adaptive cruise control, rear view reversing camera, rear traffic alert, blind spot monitor, park assist, traffic jam assist and emergency assist.

Several basic configurations will be available, one focused on 'Style' and another on 'Sport.' Each will feature different personalization options, interior equipment and other hardware.

The T-Roc will arrive in Europe by November, carrying a 20,000-euro (~$23,600 USD) entry price at home in Germany. U.S. sales have been ruled out, according to Volkswagen.
