VW shows latest Saveiro pickup for Brazilian surfers

\'Surf\' package adds 15-inch alloy wheels, smoked headlights, chrome trim.

Volkswagen has revealed a new 'Surf' version of its diminutive Saveiro pickup for the Brazil market.

The single-cab configuration, based on the Gol, features 15-inch alloy wheels, smoked headlights, extra chrome trim, a honeycomb grille and a roof bar to tie down surfboards or other large pieces of cargo.

Power is provided by the same 1.6-liter engine as the basic Saveiro, sending up to 104 horsepower to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

The company earlier this year introduced a crew-cab variant, known as the Saveiro Doble Cabina, with a similar front end. It is longer and higher than the normal pickup, however, providing extra room for rear-seat passengers.

VW has not indicated any plans to launch its smallest pickup in other markets beyond Latin America.
