Volvo open to building more Polestar Engineered S60sby Ronan Glon
It doesn't have to be a limited-edition model.
As it stands, you're out of luck if you want to put a Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered in your garage. The Swedish firm earmarked 20 examples for the United States market and they've all been spoken for. Officials are open to building more of them, though.
"If customers would like to buy that car, we're going to build that car," said Anders Gustafsson, the CEO of Volvo's American division, in an interview with Digital Trends.
The Polestar Engineered (pictured) sits at the top of the 2019 S60 line-up as a performance-oriented offering, though it's not as hardcore as the Polestar-badged variant of the last-generation S60. It receives a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain rated at 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque, increases of 15 and 22, respectively, over the standard S60 T8. The treatment also adds bigger brakes and suspension tweaks, among other modifications.
Gustafsson didn't reveal when Volvo will decide whether to boost production of the S60 Polestar Engineered. And, similarly, he didn't shed light on whether the model would be offered through conventional sales channels like buying or leasing. The 20 examples scooped up by enthusiasts were exclusively available through Care By Volvo, the company's subscription service.
