Geneva LIVE: Volvo Concept Estate

The Concept Estate pays homage to the P1800 ES of the early 1970s.

Volvo has fully unveiled the Concept Estate at the Geneva Motor Show. The Concept Estate is billed as a follow up to the Concept Coupe and the Concept XC Coupe.

Finished in an eye-catching shade of brown, the Concept Estate pays homage to the P1800 ES sports car built in 1972 and 1973 with a sleek, shooting brake-like silhouette. The rear end features shapely tail lamps and a generously-sized hatch largely made of glass while the front end is fitted with an aggressive bumper, an elegant radiator grille with floating horizontal slats and T-shaped headlights LED daytime running lights.

21-inch alloy wheels and retro-styled badges add a finishing touch to the exterior appearance.

With room for up to four passengers, the Concept Estate packs a well-lit interior with a tablet-sized touch screen located on the center console, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and an instrument cluster made up of round digital gauges. Volvo says the interior was designed to convey the feel of a Scandinavian living room.

A custom-built set of kubb - a Swedish lawn game - is cleverly hidden under the cargo floor.

The Concept Estate is underpinned by Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA). Further technical details are not available but the wagon packs a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

It's possible that a wagon inspired by the Concept Estate could eventually make production, but Volvo has not confirmed that such a project is in the works.
