Volvo to reveal all-electric XC40 later this year

The electric XC40 will be Volvo's first pure EV.

Volvo has confirmed plans to debut an all-electric variant of the XC40 later this year.

The reveal was quietly announced in a statement to Automotive News Europe at a recent safety event. The company did not divulge additional details, however.

The standard XC40 was revealed late in 2017. Built upon Volvo's CMA platform architecture, the compact crossover initially launched with standard engines but was developed with hybrid and pure electric powertrains in mind.

The XC40 EV will presumably fetch a premium over the base model's $33,200 price tag.
