Volvo develops eclipse viewer for all-new XC60by Drew Johnson
Volvo is getting in on the solar eclipse action.
Those interested viewing next week's solar eclipse have a new option to do so in Swedish comfort. Volvo announced on Thursday that it has developed a new custom eclipse viewer designed for the standard panoramic moonroof of its all-new XC60 crossover.
Although the viewer would be a cool standard feature for all XC60s, Volvo will only ship the unit to select dealers along the eclipse's path. Volvo says it is giving priority to dealers located in Oregon, Idaho, Nebraska, Missouri and South Carolina.
The ISO-certified 12312-2 material will allow passengers to see the solar eclipse from all five seats of the new XC60 via the crossover's expansive panoramic roof. The viewer attaches to the XC60's roof with magnets.
"The development of the XC60 Panoramic Moonroof Eclipse Viewer gives those in the eclipse's path a unique way to experience this historic event in both comfort and safety,” said Bob Jacobs, Vice President of Marketing, Product and Brand Communications, Volvo Car USA.
For those that can't make it to one of Volvo's dealers in the path of the solar eclipse, the company will also stream the event live online.
