JCB boss wants to buy Jaguar

Sir Anthony Bamford, chairman of of JCB, expressed an interest in buying Jaguar from Ford in an interview this week. JCB is responsible for the record-setting JCB Dieselmax land speed car. Bamford told Edmunds he'd be interested in buying Jag if it could be separated from Land Rover. Interestingly, recent rumors have indicated Ford was planning to bundle the two companies in order to make any possible sale more attractive. Under Bamford's plan, matters may work out better for both parties. Bamford said he'd get rid of the Jaguar X-Type and re-skin the XJ. Presumedly, Ford is in the finishing stages of redesigning the S-Type, which he says is "critical." The Leftlane Perspective: Such a deal could be good for Ford, because it would enable it to keep the profitable Land Rover division. It could also be good news for Jaguar, because it would become British-owned and relatively independent. Stay tuned.
