Early look: Mitsubishi Concept-ZT [update]

New photos have emerged of Mitsubishi's forthcoming Concept-ZT, which is set to debut at the this October's Tokyo Motor Show. It is believed the ZT signals Mitsubishi's design intentions for the next Galant sedan.

The concept is powered by a 2.2 liter clean diesel that produces 187 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via Mitsubishi's new Twin-Clutch SST transmission -- a feature also expected to debut on the Concept cX. The Concept-ZT saves weight by using an all-aluminum space frame.

The ZT boasts a number of safety features, including a pop-up hood for increased pedestrian protection. The four-door sedan also uses a new all-around camera system that allows the driver to view more than just what is behind the car -- similar to the system found on the Infiniti EX.

i MIEV Sport

Also expected at the October show is the i MIEV Sport, based on the automaker's i MIEV all-electric car. Like the i MIEV, the Sport uses a a rear-midship layout with its lithium-ion batteries stored underneath the passenger floor.

The powertrain consists of two electric motors in the front -- one to power each wheel -- and one motor providing power to the rear-wheels. The i MIEV Sport's interior uses Mitsubishi's "Green Plastic" -- a feature the automaker will debut in its Concept cX next week.
