Spied: Audi TT-S prototype

Spy photographers have spotted a prototype for the upcoming TT-S cabriolet making its rounds at the Nürburgring. The TT-S will receive Audi's signature S front end styling -- including a deeper front air-dam and larger front air-intakes -- as well as several hard-edges, giving the car a more aggressive look. At the rear, the dual exhaust now gets a twin pipe setup instead of the current car's single-pipe design.

This second-generation TT is the first to receive a legitimate Audi performance upgrade and should allow the car to compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman S and BMW Z4.

The TT-S' powertrain largely remains a mystery, but the car is expected to be powered by a version of the S3's 2.0L turbo-four and could produce as much as 300 horsepower.

In addition to the TT-S, it is also believed that Audi is working on an even more high-performance TT-RS.
