Bugatti to unveil topless Veyron at Concours d'Elegance in August

The long-rumored targa version of the Bugatti supercar will make its public debut at the 2008 Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach, California, which kicks off on August 17, today's reports say. The model will start production in 2009.

As previously believed, the topless Bug will get a removable hardtop, but with no accommodations for it on the car apart from atop the passenger compartment, a stowable fabric cover will also be included to protect the interior from the elements in emergency situations, say Inside Line reports. As with all other convertibles, the chassis will be reinforced to make up for the lack of a roof, with the Veyron coupe's 253mph top speed artificially tempered to a more manageable 217mph and still the world's fastest drop-top.

Production numbers are expected to be in the 75 or 80 range, with the price premium over the $2 million coupe estimated at $250,000.
