GM names Bryan Nesbitt as new Cadillac head

Bryan Nesbitt, the man best known for designing the Chrysler PT Cruiser, has been named the new head of General Motors' Cadillac premium division. GM is expected to make an official announcement on the subject later today, with Nesbitt set to take the reins of Cadillac on August 1st.

Nesbitt joined General Motors in 2001, with his first major project being the Chevrolet HHR - GM's answer to the PT Cruiser. Nesbitt spent his first six years at General Motors as design direct of GM Europe before taking his current position in 2007 as head of North American Design, according to Automotive News.

In his new position, Nesbitt will report directly to Bob Lutz. Lutz, 77, recently returned to GM as head of communications and marketing with a focus on design. Lutz says vehicle design will be the new focus of GM's advertising.

Steve Hill and Steve Shannon, Cadillac's current general managers, will be reassigned within GM, but their new positions have not been announced.
