Nissan replaces U.S. design chief with head of European design

Nissan has announced that Bruce Campbell, vice president, design, North America, will retire and be succeeded by European counterpart Alfonso Albaisa. Campbell has been with Nissan for 30 years, and will now retire to fill an advisor role Nissan's global design division.



Effective April 1, Nissan will join GM in as the latest automaker to make critical moves in key positions. In addition to Albaisa replacing Campbell, he will be succeeding Victor Nacif, vice president, design business aspect, Nissan design America. Nacif will be moving to Europe and taking post at Albaisa's former position as vice president, Nissan design Europe.

During Campbell's tenure with Nissan, which began in 1980, he worked as chief designer for the Nissan Gobi Concept Truck, the 'Hardbody' pickup, Maxima, Pulsar NX, Cocoon Concept, Xterra, Maxima, Rogue and Nissan 370Z.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Bruce for his passionate contribution to Nissan Design during his 31-year tenure since the establishment of NDA," said Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer, design and brand management, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and president, NDA. "Although Bruce will be leaving NDA, he will continue to play a vital role as advisor for Nissan Global Design."

Nacif, who will be replacing Albaisa in Europe, joined Nissan design America in June 2004. Before joining Nissan Nacif worked for PSa Peugot Citroen and Ford. Nacif graduated from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.
