Chrysler to sell off former AMC headquarters

OldCarCo - the portion of Chrysler that languishes in bankruptcy as it tries to sell off remaining assets - has agreed to sell the former American Motors Corporation headquarters in Detroit to a Mount Clemens, Michigan, buyer.

The headquarters on Plymouth Road in Detroit will be sold along with three other Detroit properties and one in Syracuse, New York, for $2.3 million. That figure is a mere fraction of what Chrysler once sought for the former AMC headquarters, which opened in 1927 by refrigerator manufacturer Kelvinator.

The AMC facility, which was still used by Chrysler until recently, served as a research and development center by the automaker. Chrysler moved its operations from the building to its Auburn Hills Technology Center in 2009.
