Geneva LIVE: Fiat Freemont arrives as rebadged Dodge Journey

The latest Fiat has arrived - and it's a Dodge with a new grille and badges.

Fiat has taken the wraps off its new Freemont crossover at the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Dodge Journey, the Freemont represents the first Fiat product born from the company's tie-up with Chrysler.

Following its Geneva debut, the Freemont will hit the European market during the second half of 2011. The Euro-spec Freemont will be built at Chrysler's factory in Toluca, Mexico. Chrysler's Toluca plant also produces the Fiat 500 for the U.S. market.

The Freemont is essentially identical to the Journey model sold here, save for some Fiat badges and a unique rear bumper. The Freemont will offer seating for seven.

The Freemont will launch with two versions of Fiat's 2.0 MultiJet diesel engine - one producing 140 horsepower and the other 170 horsepower. Both models will come exclusively in front-wheel drive with a manual transmission.

Fiat will later add a four-wheel drive version of the 170 horsepower model, along with an all-wheel drive 3.6L V6 model. Both all-wheel drive models will be equipped with an automatic transmission.
