More details emerge on Bugatti's 16 C Galibier sedan

The Galibier will be "faster than anything on the market."

Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer has confirmed that his company is working on the production version of the 16C Galibier super sedan.

Following the footsteps of the Veyron, the Galibier will feature a W16 engine with a displacement of 8.0 liters. However, unlike the Veyron's quad-turbocharger setup, the Galibier will likely use a two-stage supercharger system.

The result will be a car that Dürheimer promises will go "faster than anything on the market." He did not mention how much power the car will pack but Car & Driver estimates that it will make approximately 1,400 horsepower.

Italdesign-Giugiaro, now part of the Volkswagen group, is helping Bugatti designers make modifications to the original concept that was presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The final design is not quite ready but the car's exterior will be inspired by the torpedo-like Type 35 while evoking design cues from the Type 57.

The Galibier will be largely constructed of carbon fiber but some body panels - such as the doors and fenders - will be made of aluminum. The interior, which will have room for four, will use similarly exotic materials, albeit of a different variety. The cabin will be adorned with the highest quality wood and leather, juxtaposed with an ultramodern LCD center console.

The Galibier was originally set to go on sale this year but Dürheimer was reportedly disappointed with the car's levels of comfort and performance, forcing engineers to go back to the drawing board. Bugatti hasn't decided whether it will launch the Galibier or the next-gen Veyron first but both cars are several years out.

Regardless of when it hits the market, the Galibier will likely cost more than the $1.7 million Veyron.
