Toyota Supra to make production debut in Detroit

Toyota will lift the veil on its Supra in January.

It's been a long time in the making, but Toyota confirmed this week that the production version of its Supra sports car will make its global debut at the 2019 Detroit auto show.

We've heard plenty of rumors, and have even seen a few concepts from Toyota, but the wait is nearly over. The automaker's German division confirmed via Facebook that the Supra is scheduled to make its production debut this January in Detroit. The announcement was first noticed by the enthusiasts site SupraMKV.

Unfortunately, Toyota of Germany didn't let any other details slip. However, we known that the all-new Supra will share a platform with BMW's Z4. An inline six-cylinder engine is likely destined for the Supra's engine bay, and a hybrid version could also be offered. It remains unknown if the rear-wheel drive Supra will offer a manual transmission, but the latest reports indicate that it could be.

As far as pricing is concerned, Toyota says the Supra "won't be cheap.” We'll likely have to wait beyond January, however, to learn the exact figure Toyota has in mind for the Supra..
