LA LIVE: Audi e-tron GT concept

by Justin King

The four-door Gran Turismo represents Audi's vision for electric performance.

Audi has revealed the e-tron GT concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show, highlighting the company's vision for electric performance cars.

The four-door fastback Gran Turismo is slightly wider and lower to the ground than the Audi A7. Its center of gravity is much lower -- comparable to an R8 -- thanks to a battery mounted below the floor and a carbon-fiber roof.

With 590 horsepower and permanent all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, the GT can rocket to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds and keep pushing to 124 mph in just over 12 seconds. Overall specs are presumably being dialed back to ensure the EV does not upstage its Porsche-badged sibling, the Taycan, which is expected to share the same platform.

With a 90-kWh battery, the e-tron GT is expected to deliver over 249 miles of range according to the WLTP test cycle. Drivers can expect to recharge a depleted battery to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.

Audi says volume production will begin sometime in 2020, following behind the e-tron SUV and e-tron Sportback that will land next year. Further development is being handled by Audi Sport, the company's performance subsidiary.
