GM begins taking pre-orders for $3,800 Ariv electric bicycles in Europe

The company is initially focusing on Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

General Motors has announced AR?V as the name of its new eBike brand, which is now taking pre-orders for delivery in a few European markets.
The company says the pair electric bicycles, known as the Meld and Merge, have been engineered to high "automotive-grade" standards, particularly the proprietary motor and associated control hardware.
The bikes can be operated under electric power alone at speeds of up to 15.5 mph, with four levels of pedal-assisted power. Riders can charge the bikes in approximately 3.5 hours for up to 40 miles of range.
The Merge is a folding bike that can be rolled on its wheels when folded, while the Meld is also compact but not foldable. Both connect to an app via Bluetooth to manage charge settings and view trip data.
The bikes aren't cheap, with prices starting at the equivalent of $3,100 and topping out at more than $3,800. Sales will initially be limited to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
