Las Vegas considering Boring Co tunnels underneath The Strip

The company has already received a green light to dig underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Following Boring Co's approved plan to build a people mover beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center, the city is now expressing interest in extending the network to The Strip.

The company's limited plan to dig beneath the convention center is a relatively small endeavor compared to other proposed projects in cities such as Chicago, though it eliminates bureaucratic red tape that could stymie bigger digs across multiple properties or public roads.

The proposed expansion of Boring Co's convention center people mover would allow visitors to between hotels on the strip district or to and from from LVCC events. Large gatherings such as CES are notorious for congestion on surface-level streets that are not designed to accommodate the increased traffic, despite seemingly well-coordinated shuttle services from hotels and other locations.

"It will go back and forth underground to get our conventioneers moving easily between the properties," Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman told Fox News. "We're excited about it. Elon Musk is a forward thinker much like Las Vegas."

The city will presumably be closely watching the LVCC project while it reviews the plan to dig underneath The Strip.
