Acura readying NSX Type R with 650 horsepower?

The package is expected to get suspension and brake upgrades to complement the extra power and unique styling.

Acura is reportedly ready to expand the NSX lineup with a new Type R flagship edition.

The Type R will bring a long list of upgrades to better compete with the McLaren 570S and other rivals, increasing the total output of the NSX's hybrid system from 573 to 650 horsepower, according to Forbes.

Complementing the additional oomph, the flagship is expected to feature bigger carbon-ceramic brakes, unique carbon aerodynamic elements, stiffer suspension, steering tweaks and interior enhancements.

Pricing will presumably be driven north of $200,000, representing a $40,000+ premium over the basic NSX.

The Type R is said to be scheduled for an official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year.
