Audi details plug-in hybrid powertrains for Q5, A6, A7, A8

A 14.1-kWh battery pack supports more than 25 miles of electric range.

Audi has announced new plug-in hybrid powertrains available for the Q5, A6, A7, and A8.

Some of the affected models will now be available with a choice between two PHEV systems, one focused on performance and the other for 'comfort.'

The powertrains pair a turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor located inside the transmission, drawing electricity from a 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery.

The sedans and crossover all boast an electric range of more than 25 miles according to the WLTP test cycle. The company has not yet confirmed performance specifications for the lineup, however.

More details could be revealed next month in Geneva.
