2019 Kia Stinger earns Top Safety Pick Plus award

The rating applies to certain packages with LED headlights.

The 2019 Kia Stinger is the latest vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety this year.

The sedan aced all of the IIHS crash tests, including the driver- and passenger-side small overlap. It also has an available automatic emergency braking system that earned a 'superior' rating, avoiding collisions in the 12 mph and 25 mph track tests.

To qualify for the 2019 TSP+, vehicles must have 'good'-rated headlights. The Stinger's optional LED projector headlights received top marks. Its curve-adaptive LEDs were deemed 'acceptable,' however, and the base halogen projectors rated 'poor.'

The Stinger is the 10th Kia model to earn a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus award for the 2019 model year.
