Paris LIVE: Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 concept

New plug-in hybrid supercar concept is Lamborghini\'s first.

This is Lamborghini's Asterion LPI 910-4 concept, the Italian automaker's first plug-in hybrid supercar showcase.

All of the requisite credentials for supercar status are present here. The monocoque is carbon fiber, the "910" in the name represents the power output (just shy of 900hp as measured here in the States) and Lamborghini claims a 0-62 mph time of three seconds flat and a top speed just a hair shy of 200 mph (198.9, or 320 kph). The base engine is Lamborghini's 5.2L V10, and power goes to the ground via a conventional seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

And since it's a full hybrid, it's capable of traveling up to 50 km (31 miles) on pure electric power and and a maximum electric-only speed of 125 kph (77 mph), all of this with estimated fuel consumption of just 4.2l/100km (56 mpg US). The transmission has been positioned behind the engine to free up room in front for the lithium-ion battery pack. An integrated starter/generator between the engine and transmission fuels the battery pack, which in turn powers two electric motors on the front axle and a third in the rear.

How feasible is production? Lamborghini claims the Asterion LPI 910-4 "...could be realistically produced today, using technologies currently available and drawing on Lamborghini's own expertise."
