Lexus confirms production LC convertible

The news isn't exactly shocking.

Lexus has confirmed to Automotive News that a convertible version of its LC luxury coupe will soon go into production.

The announcement isn't exactly surprising; Lexus showed off a prototype LC convertible earlier this month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that looked very production ready. The LC convertible will be Lexus' first drop top model since the IS C went out of production four years ago.

Lexus didn't give an exact date for the LC convertible's market launch, but the automaker says it'll be arriving "in the near future.”

As previewed by the LC Convertible Concept that debuted at the 2019 Detroit auto show, the convertible version of the LC will share most of its exterior styling with its coupe counterpart. Lexus' two previous convertibles -- the IS C and earlier SC -- both used folding hardtops, but it's believed that the LC convertible will use a conventional soft top.

Look for the LC convertible to offer the same drivetrains as the LC coupe. That means the BMW 8 Series rival will be available with either a 471 horsepower 5.0L V8 or a more efficient V6-hybrid setup that delivers 472 horsepower.

Pricing remains a mystery, but expect the LC convertible to land with a price tag somewhere in the neighborhood of $100,000.
