Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition sold out

by Ronan Glon

The limited-edition model will return in 2020.

Lincoln's flagship model, the limited-edition Continental Coach Door Edition, is sold out about a month after its unveiling. The firm promised to announce details about a follow-up luxury sedan in the coming weeks.

"Response from customers has been extremely positive, with interest exceeding the planned production for the limited-edition run," Lincoln told Leftlane via email. The company added the 80 examples that make up the first batch of Coach Door Edition models each sold for over $110,000. That figure makes it the most expensive member of Lincoln's current line-up; it's over twice as expensive as the entry-level Continental, and about $30,000 more than a loaded Continental Black Label.

Lincoln is currently working with its dealers to confirm orders and reservations. It will allocate cars to buyers on a first-come, first-served basis, and the first deliveries are scheduled for the summer of 2019. Naturally, the company's product planners are looking at how to capitalize on this unexpected demand. Lincoln has confirmed the Coach Door Edition will return for the 2020 model year, though it sounds like it won't be identical to the 2019 model in order to preserve a degree of exclusivity.

"We will have more to share very soon," a company spokesperson told us. We wouldn't be surprised to hear Lincoln make a Continental-related announcement at the 2019 Chicago auto show.

The Coach Door Edition gets -- as its name implies -- suicide doors that create a visual link between the current Continental and the stately models made in the 1960s. Lincoln stretched the sedan's wheelbase by half a foot, and it fitted an edition-specific center console with a wireless charging pad.
