Mazda6 gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto support
Existing owners will be able to bring in their 2018-model-year cars to receive a free update.
Mazda is finally rolling out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support for the 2018 Mazda6.
Starting in November, the mobile interfaces will be available from the factory as standard equipment on the Touring trim level and above.
For existing owners of the 2018-model-year car, CarPlay and Android Auto can be enabled via a free tech upgrade for certain trim levels. Vehicles must be brought in for a service visit, requiring approximately two hours to update the hardware and software.
The upgrade also includes a fast-charging 2.1-amp USB port and the latest version of Mazda Connect infotainment software, which promises to reduce distraction when performing native and smartphone-based functions.
The free retrofit is available starting in September for the 2018 Mazda6 Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature editions.
