Mitsubishi Mirage gets 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio systemby Justin King
The budget-focused subcompact is now available with heavy-hitting speakers.
Mitsubishi has introduced the Mirage Rockford Fosgate Edition, a new audio-focused package for the 2015 model year.
Starting with the entry-level trim, the company added a more powerful Rockford Fosgate ecoPunch sound system, steering-wheel audio controls and Bluetooth for hands-free calling and wireless audio playback from mobile devices.
The audio package includes a dual 6.5-inch long-throw subwoofer system in a Mirage-specific molded suspension-type enclosure. A 300-watt Class-D amplifier powers the speakers, with a discrete MOSFET subwoofer amp channel to minimize distortion.
"Rockford Fosgate is one of the most recognized and coveted audio systems in the automotive industry and we're excited to offer this package in a segment that doesn't typically offer premium audio systems," said Mitsubishi North America executive VP Don Swearingen.
Aside from the acoustic enhancements, the package also features cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels and special badging.
The Rockford Fosgate edition starts at $14,945, marking a $1,950 premium over the basic entry-level build or $650 more than the similarly-equipped ES trim.
