2018 Porsche 911 GTS
The Porsche 911 GTS is a mid-range model designed to slot between the Carrera S model and the track-focused GT3. In addition to the coupe discussed here, the 911 GTS is available as a convertible that is aimed at sun worshipers.
Overview
Power for the 911 GTS comes from 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six engine that makes 450 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 405 pound-feet of torque from 2,150 to 5,000 rpm. Rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed manual transmission come standard, and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is offered at an extra cost.
The 911 GTS hits 60 mph from a stop in 3.9 seconds when it's equipped with the manual, and it goes on to a top speed of 193 mph. Go for the two-pedal setup and it'll blast to 60 mph from a stop in 3.5 seconds.
Fuel economy is surprisingly reasonable for a high-performance machine. The GTS returns 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with the stick, and 20/26 with the dual-clutch.
The 911 Carrera 4 GTS offers all-wheel drive. It uses the same engine as the rear-wheel drive model, but it performs the benchmark zero-to-60 sprint in as quick as 3.4 seconds.
Looking the part
Visually, the GTS stands out from other members of the 911 lineup thanks to 20-inch center-locking alloy wheels painted gloss black, smoked Bi-Xenon headlights, a new front bumper with an additional air intake, bigger air intakes behind the doors, sport design door mirrors, chrome-plated exhaust tips and a number of model-specific trim pieces all around. All models boast the same wide rear end as the all-wheel drive Carrera 4.
