Tesla Summon to get manual control 'like big RC car'

The advanced Summon feature is expected to be ready in approximately six weeks.

Elon Musk has announced that Tesla's Summon feature will soon get an upgrade that will enable remote manual control.

"Car will drive to your phone location & follow you like a pet if you hold down summon button on Tesla app," Musk wrote on Twitter. "Also, you'll be able to drive it from your phone remotely like a big RC car if in line of sight."

The system is apparently capable of working from very far away, but Tesla is requiring line-of-sight operation for safety.

The upgrade is expected to be ready in around six weeks. It will only require an over-the-air update and is compatible with all Autopilot HW2 cars made in the past few years.

"By next year, a Tesla should be able to drive around a parking lot, find an empty spot, read signs to confirm it's valid & park," Musk added.
