Tesla's $35,000 Model 3 available now with 220-mile range

A new 'Standard Range Plus' edition boasts slightly longer range, higher top speed and quicker acceleration for $37,000.

Tesla has announced that the Model 3's $35,000 base configuration is now available to order.

The entry-level Model 3 offers 220 miles of range, a 130 mph top speed and zero-to-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds. The interior has also been downgraded from the more expensive trim levels that have rolled off the assembly line until now.

Notably, the company appears to be aggressively pushing buyers toward a slightly more expensive Standard Range Plus package that increases range to 240 miles, bumps top speed to 140 mph, cuts the zero-to-60 benchmark to 5.3 seconds and adds a 'partial' premium interior. Most of the differences appear to be software-enabled tweaks will net Tesla an extra $2,000 per unit.

"For 6% more money, you get 9% more range, more power, and an upgraded interior," the company says.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the next two to four weeks for US buyers.
